This Ain't Our Lot, We The People

So, since Christmas Day, I haven't played much music excepting my bubble buddies jams. Enough to keep fingers in the pie.

Really didn't feel motivated to do much this winter except vegetate and ruminate at the end of  my long dirt road. I was very lucky to have 15 acres to spend the last year on.

My ruminations brought me to the realization that we are, indeed, pursuing the fowling of our own nest. Not only are the waves building on the shore of every country in the world, but the Damdemic has done something to the humanness of mankind. Don't know how to put my finger on it, but as a species we seem more factious, petty, quarrelsome, eager to disparage and blame everyone for our misfortunes. In a few words, I think we have become spoiled rotten as a society.

The reality is that this Pandemic is what it is and we need to get over the whining about it. The quicker we engage and put this behind us, the quicker out new normal will become apparent. We, all of us, have had vaccinations. Millions would not be here were it not for vaccines for Typhoid, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Small Pox, Polio ad nauseum. I was eager to get my vaccination. I feel much better about going out into the world again. I still mask when I feel it's necessary, and using the hand sanitizer when I feel the need.

MY thanks to the the heroics of our Health Care Workers, Scientists, and all those who are still working tirelessly to keep us safe. Shame on those who ignore the responsibility of caring for the herd. Selfishness and Selflessness do not go hand in hand.

It's not the first time we have not had it easy. We've had a Civil War that tried our Democracy,. The Great and small depressions caused panic and disillusionment.

The World Wars were not easy on our people. Sugar, gas, wood, cloth, many household products were limited. People planted Victory Gardens. The building of railroads, bridges, and the rest of what we enjoy was a national effort, and not easy to accomplish. Our grandparents, parents all participated in making what we have happen. We all share in and feel the pain of our present situation.

A patient with Covid was being admitted to the hospital asked if they were gonna give him the Covid shot. The response was no. It's too late for that. The choice was there. This person chose not to make the right one. I wish him speedy recovery. He could have avoid 93% of his present situation by vaccination. In the words of Forrest Gump. "That's all I have to say about that".

We need to work much harder to bring some semblance of order and respect to our politics, our social order and our responsibilities in today's world. If we don't act soon this country will become a place even the mirror on the wall won't recognize . Don't ask about your inalienable rights then, it'll be too late.

I realize that this "noble experiment" in Democracy is not easy, but we have prevailed to become the teenager in an old world order. Democracy has it's up's and down's. Like many a teenager, the anger, the experimentation, the defiance of a perceived  old order has been around since we started to walk on two legs. The young will inherit the mantle of responsibility of the world they build, just as the previous generations have. We still have a lot to learn. It will take work, education, sacrifice, and We instead of Me to keep Miss Democracy alive. We don't have to build a Democracy, we have one worth saving.

Include the Ugly American in your summer reading list. We ain't saints in this world, and more and more are acting like juvenile delinquents. Hope we have time to grow out of  our latest Pandemic and national temper tantrum.

My new bumper sticker? NO WHINING= DO YOUR PART.
